A Rare Opportunity at Oxford

KrisAnne Hall has been accepted into the Oxford Law Summer Program, now in its 52nd year and the oldest ongoing Oxford program sponsored by a U.S. law school. This program provides an immersive study of comparative law and the history of the common law in its original setting.

Participants reside at St. Edmund Hall, a University of Oxford college whose origins trace back to the 13th century, when Edmund of Abingdon—monk and later Archbishop of Canterbury—lived and taught there. Named St. Edmund Hall in 1317, it is the only remaining original Oxford community.

This is not merely an academic credential. It is a return to the legal soil from which Western liberty first grew.

Across England and the broader UK, freedom of speech and freedom of religion are under increasing pressure, particularly for Christians who publicly affirm biblical convictions. Pastors, street preachers, and ordinary citizens are facing legal consequences for speech that was protected only a generation ago.

These trends do not remain isolated.

Historically, legal and cultural developments in the UK often precede similar pressures in the United States. Understanding how these challenges unfold—and how faithful believers respond within the British legal system—equips Liberty First Legal to better anticipate, address, and resist encroachments on liberty here at home.

In addition to rigorous coursework, the Oxford program includes academic outings to London and Stratford-upon-Avon, along with significant time for independent engagement.

Our intention is to use this opportunity to:

•    Deepen legal grounding in the common law tradition

•    Build relationships with Christian legal scholars, leaders, and influencers in the UK

•    Listen, learn, and establish partnerships with those navigating religious-liberty challenges firsthand

•    Bring back insight and perspective that will strengthen Liberty First Legal’s advocacy, education, and litigation efforts
